Ah, here we are at The Hollywood Bowl. We had intended giving a hearty rendition of  'I was drunk last night, dear Mother' but a gentleman who seems to be paid for sitting on the corner of the stage wouldn't allow it. Their loss.

"
Eagle-eyed readers will notice that Albert Edward's brother Robert,
deputised for him and travelled to Libya for a very special engagement.
Albert Edward himself was unavoidably delayed in Africa as a result of the
Eyjafjallajokull volcano erupting in Iceland. Jim Fraser MM. BEM was Field
Marshall Montgomery's driver at the run up to El Alamaine (now in his 90's)
and returned - probably for the last time - to the desert, paying his
respects to fallen comrades".

Here is Andrew

Tina in Zambia 2010

Hello everybody, my name is Albert Edward. I am a knitted Lifeboatman from Clacton-on-Sea with a fondness for world travel.

My escapades began a few years ago when I turned up in a box of aid in Kosovo with the volunteers of Hope & Aid Direct. Knowing that one their regulars does a great deal of RNLI fundraising, I was ordered to report for duty to a certain Mr Graham Crame.

Graham and I shared a happy journey back to his home Harwich where we got to know each other very well indeed.

Since then, amongst other adventures, I have voyaged aboard the MV Discovery to the Arctic Circle and have abseiled down Southwold Lighthouse.
Now I am accompanying Tina in Zambia. I am both proud and delighted that she has made me an honorary VSO volunteer:

I must admit, it has been something of a culture shock for me to be in such a hot, and land-locked, country. There is barely a light breeze here most days and I find myself yearning for a decent Force-9 gale!! Oh well, there are some great tropical rain storms for me to splash about in.

Tina has introduced me to the delights of Zambias own local brew, Mosi Beer. Of course I dont normally touch alcohol while on duty but as there dont seem to be any in peril on the sea, I indulge in a bottle of the golden throat-charmer at the end of a long hot day. It tastes just like my other favourite, Peja Bier!

There are other delights on this trip too, but Im far too much of a gentleman to go into detail .suffice to say, Sleepie-Buns is not as quiet as she looks!!

I am always trying to raise funds for RNLI and have a few adventures lined up for when I return from Zambia. If you are interested in taking me on an unusual expedition, please get in touch with Graham at [email protected] For a small donation of 25 (and a picture for my album), I will happily consider most things a climb up Everest, a Polar exploration or, for the real adrenalin junkies, a trip around Liverpool!

Thanks for reading about me, hope we meet up soon,

Albert Edward

Albert Edward joins the Clacton crew

The volunteers at Clacton-on-Sea lifeboat station have gained a new member. He was a present to shop manager Graham Crame while on a visit to Kosovo.

Graham is a volunteer with the charity Hope and Aid Direct and it was on a recent trip that his colleagues gave him the knitted lifeboatman.

They knew of my connection with the RNLI, and thought his adventures might help raise funds said Graham. We named him Albert Edward after the first lifeboat stationed at Clacton

We havent been able to establish how he arrived in Kosovo, but have been tracking his movements since. He returned overland from Pristina to Harwich a distance of 2257 kilometres and nine countries. He was soon of again this time on a memorial voyage from Harwich to Mumansk to remember the thousands of seaman who lost their lives in the Russian convoys of World War II.

On his return he joined Grahams son Nathan on the RNLIs fundraising abseil at Southwold lighthouse.

Where will he be off to next? If you would like to have him as a companion on an unusual journey, please get in touch, We ask for a donation of 25 and a picture of him on his adventures.

The pictures show Albert Edward leaving Kosovo and with Nathan at Southwold.

Fund Raising Drive

Stevie Mann from Cornwall is driving his mini round the UK visiting all the mainland lifeboat stations. Starting at Lands End on September 1st the trip is planned to take 41 days, finishing on October 11th. He is hoping to be at Clacton boathouse on 2nd October at around 12.30pm.

The aim of the drive is to raise sufficient funds to buy a new lifeboat to be named Mini 1.

Stevie has a website at www.mini-rnli.co.uk

Albert Edward on his travels again

Lifeboat mascot Albert Edward has been up to the Arctic Circle on the MV Discovery. He visited Murmansk in July as part of the voyage to remember the seamen who lost their lives on the Arctic convoys during World War II.

His companion on the trip was Anna Rendell-Knights from Harwich. Also on board was David Barby the antiques expert from such programs as Flog-It and Bargain Hunt. David was only too pleased to pose for a photo for Alberts scrap book.
