Our new boathouse had its’ official opening at 11am on May 12th 2007 when Bob Stammers cut the ribbon across the doors. Branch Chairman, David Porter, welcomed 240 invited guests and introduced the station Administration Officer and Vice Chairman, Richard Walker, who gave a brief history of the lifeboats at Clacton-on-Sea. Mrs Diane Pawelec, representing the donors, handed the building to Lord Howe of the RNLI Council who accepted it on behalf of the Institution, who then passed it into the care of the Operations Manager, Rob Smith. Mrs Pawelec unveiled a plaque to the donors who funded the new building, Mrs Marjorie Griffith, (her Godmother) Mrs Betty Huntbatch and Mr David Stanoland Smith who all left legacies, and the Fox International Group who gave a donation. Bob Stammers, at 85, is the oldest surviving member of the lifeboat crew. He joined the station in 1949 and served until 1984. The new boathouse is a modern, low maintenance building with all the facilities required to operate an efficient rescue service and gives Clacton-on-Sea a station to be proud of.
